Click on the File tab at the top left of the MS Word window. Then you should select options to open the Word Options window. Click Advanced to open the window in the shot below. There you should scroll down the window until you reach the Display section below. There, there is a Show measurements in units of drop-down list. Click on that drop-down list to expand its options. The default ruler unit in Microsoft word is inches but if you are more comfortable when use other type units then you can change it to few other units like centimeters, millimeters, pints or picas. You can select from Inches, Centimeters, Millimeters, Points and Picas. Once you have chosen an alternative unit, click on OK to close the window. Now you should find that the units of measurement on your ruler has changed to the one selected. In the shot below the ruler has switched to inches. Changing the ruler measurements also alters the MS Word document page sizes listed under the Size option. Click the Page Layout tab and then Size to select an alternative document size. The document sizes are specified with the measurement unit that you selected. For example, switching from centimeters to inches changes the A4 document size stated to 8.27 x 11.69 inches. You’ll also find that the margins listed under the Margins option also switches to the ruler measurement you selected from the drop-down list. Switching the ruler measurement units might be handy for printing documents. Then you can match up your printer paper sizes with the document size. You can switch the document measurement units with MS Word 2010/13 and their Starter editions, but other editions of Word might not have the same option. Change Your Ruler Units Quickly You have several ruler units of measurement to choose from in Elements. When the Rulers are visible they can be displayed in units of pixels, inches, centimeters, millimeters, points, picas, or percent. You can use the rulers to help position a selection or shape or some other object. If you want to measure in inches but the rulers are set to millimeters you can change them to inches. One way to do this is to change your Preferences by going up to the Menu bar and choose Photoshop Elements>Preferences>Units & Rulers There you will see a Rulers box where you can click on the drop-down window and choose your ruler unit of measure. Click OK and your rulers will reflect your choice. But there's a much more efficient way to do that, and that's what I want to show you with this tip. The first step is to make your rulers visible if they aren't already. Go up to the Menu bar and choose View>Rulers (shortcut: Control+Shift+R/Mac:Command+Shift+R). The rulers will appear at the top and left edge of your photo. Now right-click (Mac: Control-click) anywhere on the rulers. A pop-up menu will appear where you can choose the ruler unit of measure that you want. This will have the same effect as going through the Preferences described above. Use this tip and other short-cuts and you'll be using Photoshop Elements like a pro in no time! Until next time, Rick.
